Located along the banks of Buffalo Bayou in Houston, TX, this modern gem designed by Mark Schatz and Anne Eamon of m+a architecture studio stands out among its neighbors. Rebuilt after the floods from Hurricane Harvey destroyed many residential homes in the neighborhood, this property is a true modern renewal and a symbol of the resilience of the people of Houston.
Mark Schatz and Anne Eamon of m+a architecture studio in Houston, TX are a husband-and-wife architecture team. While they have a passion for designing modern and small houses, their talents have been utilized for a variety of different sizes and styles of homes. When they aren't designing their masterpieces, they enjoy gardening, traveling, and spending time with their family.
Featured in the 2023 AIA Houston Home Tour , this home was chosen for its design excellence, quality and craftsmanship, innovative design solutions and use of materials, and sustainability of design. This home also features an array of locally made custom aluminum windows , crafted by RAM Windows & Doors , a window manufacturer in Texas.
“We can craft what we want the window to be, and RAM can make that window for us. The quality of the unit is impeccable… the flexibility there from an architect's perspective, it gives you a palate of tools that just really amplifies the creative opportunities.” - Mark Schatz, m+a architecture studio
When asked what she likes most about working as an architect in Texas, m+a architect Anne Eamon replied, “We get to design spaces that are indoor/outdoor spaces that you can use all year round. It can be challenging, but if you do it right it can really inform the way you approach design.”
