Highline Homes Brings Texas Landscape Into Austin Build

Tucked away in a quiet Austin neighborhood, this Oak Haven property is more than just a house—it’s a thoughtful blend of architecture and craftsmanship. Built by Highline Homes and led by Jake Friedman, the project was designed in partnership with local renowned architect Davey McEathron. Their shared vision was to create a home that feels both modern and grounded, with an emphasis on natural light, clean lines, and materials that reflect the surrounding landscape.

A key part of the design was the use of RAM casement windows, picture windows, and sliding doors. These elements not only bring in plenty of natural light but also frame views of the outdoor spaces, making the home feel open and connected to its environment. The large sliding doors in the dining room create an effortless flow to the outside deck, turning it into a space that works just as well for a quiet family dinner as it does for hosting friends.

Jake’s favorite space in the home is the dining room. Set apart from the kitchen and living areas, it features a sunken design, a dramatic chandelier, and floating underlit shelves that give it a warm glow in the evening. “We used a lime wash on the walls, and it really brings the space to life,” Jake explains. The plaster and stucco finishes add texture and depth, creating a room that feels both inviting and distinctive.

The project also gave the Highline team a chance to try something new. “We used a raked stucco technique for the first time,” Jake shares. “It was a bit of a challenge but turned out really well.” This attention to detail carries through to the rest of the home, where materials like walnut cabinetry and Ipe wood decking were chosen not just for their beauty, but for their durability and connection to the local environment. Landscaping with native Texas plants complete the look, tying the home to its surroundings in a subtle but meaningful way.

For Jake and his team, working with RAM Windows & Doors was essential to achieving their design goals. “They’re excellent,” he says simply. The Houston-made custom windows and doors played a big role in giving the home its clean, modern look while also improving energy efficiency. Looking back, Jake describes the project as one of his favorites. “It was a fun collaboration with Davey and his team. The end result really exceeded our expectations.”
